Mediterranean Summer

€85 per person

A menu of cooling Northern Mediterranean dishes for those wonderful summer days when it is just too hot to cook, to shop, to stir far from the pool or the sea.

Aperitivo:

A little something to keep hunger at bay before the main meal

A mixed plate of little bruschetta/pan am tomaquet/Puglian frise (depending on availability)

Starter:

Gazpachio - Spanish iced tomato and pepper soup    VV

OR

Iced Yoghurt, Mint, Avocado and Cucumber Soup    V

OR

Melon & Figs with Parma Ham, Basil & Roasted Almonds

OR

Caponata di Melanzane, Peperonata, Marinated Courgette Salad - sublime Sicilian sweet-sour aubergine,  a tangle of red and yellow peppers, with a touch of tomato and chilli, griddled courgettes with mint and toasted pinenuts  VV

Main Course:

Main courses come with two salads, one green and one based on what’s looking good in the market or greengrocers.  So possibly a panzanella (tomato, bread) or a potato, spring onion and radish salad or …..

Vitello or Pollo Tonnato - a magnificent Italian summer dish of thinly sliced veal or chicken, with a tuna mayonnaise, sounds weird but tastes wonderful.   We only use free range veal, and if unavailable, chicken

OR

Puglian caramelised onion, olive, caper pie - delicious flaky olive oil pastry, filled with slow-cooked Aquaviva red onions, olives and capers  V

OR

Grilled or Griddled Fish & Prawns with Aioli and Salsa Verde or Sophie’s Take on Salsa Romesco – the type of fish will depend on what’s looking best at the fishmonger’s

Pudding:

Baked Vanilla Ricotta with roast apricots or peaches or cherries or figs, or with strawberries  V

OR

Torta Caprese – moist chocolate and almond cake,  vanilla mascarpone and roast or fresh fruit V

OR

A Selection of Excellent Ice Creams - served with home-made lace biscuits, fruit coulis V
